Emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, AR/VR/MR, etc, are poised to impact significantly on the operation of institutes of higher learning on many fronts, be it administrative, security (both physical and cyber), learning and teaching, just to name a few.
While blockchain technology can be leveraged for verifications and secured storage of academic credentials, data analytics and AI can be utilised for better informed decision making in many areas such as admissions and student performance monitoring while IoT (Internet of Things) can play a critical role in enhancing energy savings and security for a institute. In fact, there are myriad ways how emerging technologies can be employed in the operation of institutes of higher learning.
The theme for this year’s Forum is to explore how universities may embrace emerging technologies to enhance their operational efficiency and effectiveness while mitigating the risks brought about by these technologies. The ethical and societal implications that may arise as a result of the employment of emerging technologies are to be addressed too.
